Shakespeare In Bits: Macbeth iPad EditionParents need to know that Macbeth isn't appropriate for little kids because of its mature themes -- including murder, witches and ghosts, alcohol consumption, and sexually suggestive language. Plus, this animated version of the story shows the killing sequences (albeit with cartoon-like visuals). It's not overtly graphic compared to today's violence seen in movies. Many young kids won't likely understand everything because of the use of Shakespearean English.

Shakespeare's The Tempest for iPad
Shakespeare's The Tempest for iPad includes the full text of the play with audio capabilities so students can hear the play performed as they read. The play features drunk travelers washed upon an island by a tempest, and plots to murder several characters. All is well in the end, though, in this "Brave New World that has such people in't."

The Learning NetworkParents need to know that The Learning Network uses the news of the day from the New York Times to create a blog and other news-related activities that engage teens and tweens. This site is also a resource for teachers who are creating lesson plans related to current events, history, science news, and more. The site doesn't necessarily edit what's happening in the world, so tough subjects might come up.

Vocabulary
Although teens must create an account or a login with Facebook to play, they spend most of the game focused less on socializing and more on defining key vocabulary words. The adaptive style of the game helps teens learn words at their level, while still challenging them with new words. As they improve in their understanding, they'll receive more challenging words. Teens may not incorporate all the words into their everyday conversations, but the app strives to provide them with relevant vocabulary. No matter which words they see, they'll also gain an understanding of the parts of speech, the makeup of words, and how to use context clues to determine word meaning.
